HALL GOV  2018-19

IMG_3840.JPG
[Our hall government is completely student-run and is comprised of two groups: Executive Board (E-Board for short) and Section Leaders. E-Board is mainly focused on residence concerns, planning events, coordinating outreach with students, putting together the scrapbook at the end of the year,& creating Newsletters/The Johnnies. Section Leaders, as their titles suggest, are leaders of their specific sections. They are in charge of running and moderating discussion sessions weekly pertaining to their specific topics.]

SOPHIE HILL

Co-President of Programming

Hey, I’m Sophie, and this is my second year at Dem and my second year on E-Board as Co-Pres of Programming. I’m a sophomore in the School of Nursing and a hopeful future Midwife, but in Demarest, I take care of and organize all of the events that we host in our basement! I’ve come to love this building and the magic it possesses, and I am very happy to have made it my sincere home away from home. Some of my favorite events to put on include our monthly coffeehouses and the “Demi Semi”, a unique semiformal that was an upheld tradition by Demarites of the past. Rutgers has a lot of things to offer, but I never expected my residence hall to offer me some of my favorite experiences. Stop by to one of our events sometime to see what we’re all about!

HANNY RAMADAN

Co-President of Residence Concerns

Hi! I'm Hanny, a junior majoring in Political Science & Economics and minoring in Middle Eastern Studies. At Demarest, I'm the Co-President of Residence Concerns, so I'm all about fostering a friendly community. This is my third year in the building, so clearly I love it here enough. Last year, I described Demarest to the Daily Targum as such: “You come to Demarest Hall, and you don't expect a good time. You expect transcendence. You wanna go the next level, go to Demarest Hall. That's what it is. Next level, two X's.”

JORDAN MEYERS

Secretary, Curator of "The Johnnies"

Hi! I’m Jordan: a third-year Communication & Creative Writing student, Secretary, & "Ma Dem" at Demarest Hall. As Secretary, I write & distribute monthly Newsletters to alumni & current residents, take “minutes” or notes at hall government meetings, and compile monthly ‘zines called “The Johnnies” for the building, which features residents’ art, poetry, photography, comics and more! Besides Demarest, I have a great zeal for poetry, kittens, and ‘90s alternative rock.

ALEC FERRIGNO

Outreach Coordinator

SAAHHH DUDES, I’m Alec Ferrigno, I’m a second-year student majoring in History, and I’m also the Outreach Coordinator for Demarest Hall, which means I oversee the section representatives and reach out to teach people what Demarest is all about. In my free time, I enjoy making life-sized effigies of all of my friends and writing reviews solely on hardcore jazz bands under the light of my hand-made doll’s head candles.

SOPHIA MOCCIO

Historian

Hello! I’m Sophia Moccio, a second year student in the School of Nursing with a minor in Spanish. I’m the Historian of Demarest Hall, which means I take photos at each Demarest event and compile the best ones into a huge scrapbook at the end of the year, formed of our best Demarest memories. I also work at a record store in Milltown (just ten minutes away!) called Revilla Grooves and Gear, and volunteer at St. Peters University Hospital each week.

KEEKS.jpg

Hey, I’m Taylor! I’m a first year in the School of Nursing and I plan on minoring in LGBT/Critical Sexuality Studies. As a big ol’ flaming gay, I’m very passionate about educating others on issues that affect LGBT individuals, as well as sex positivity. I also love fostering kittens, going to concerts, and taking the cheese off pizza before I eat it.

KIERIN ROGERS

 Visual Arts

Sup I'm Keeks! I'm a second year film student at Mason Gross School of the Arts, with a minor in Environmental Studies. As visual arts section leader, I ensure creativity can thrive both in and out of the beautiful free expression room in our basement. I also worked tirelessly on this website. Let's talk about art!

GIO OCCHIPINTI

Howdy, I’m Gio Occhipinti Jr! I’m majoring in Political Science & History, but my other passion is music! My other talents include fitting an entire Sprite can in my mouth, and using too many exclamation points in my emails! Long live Demarest!

KEN MANEELY

Religion, Mythology & Spirituality

I am the Religion, Mythology and Spirituality section leader. I took up this position because I was interested in the conversations I had with friends about it in my Sociology and Anthropology classes for my major and minor respectively. I took up the position in my first year at Demarest when I brought the section back after it had been ended a few years back.

EMILY WRZOS

Philosophy

Are we real? Is anything real?
Hey! I run philosophy section here at Demarest, where we talk about everything from moral dilemmas, to dreams, to human consciousness itself. Besides running section, I’m a double major with communications and visual arts so I’m usually writing, drawing, or listening to random bands that you probably haven’t heard of. I’m also from New Zealand so I’m severely obsessed with tea and little quirky towns.

CRISTIAN OSSA

Performing Arts

My name is Cristian Ossa and I am the Performing Arts section leader of Demarest! I hold sections every week with a topic relating to musical theatre and improv once a month. I also help in running the annual Haunted House. I have always loved theatre and performing and am so happy to hold this position!

When I find the time, one of my favorite things to do at Demarest is bake in the cozy little kitchen (other people seem to enjoy when I do it too).

KEVIN CHMIEL

Creative Writing

I am creative writing section leader for Demarest Hall. I love fantasy and Romantic poetry. If you have other opinions on the written word, come to section and defend them. Good day and good fortune, for I am the Goblin Bard Kevin.

JORDAN ADRAGNA

Music Liaison

Jordan Adragna is the other music guy, he handles Demarest's live music events as well as organizing the band practices. Monday nights at midnight he DJs on 90.3 The Core as "DJ Tall Guy." You'll most likely find him hitting his head in someone's crowded basement singing along to bands no one's ever heard of.
