Demarest Hall is a special-interest dorming community built in 1950, with a major emphasis on cultural enrichment, individuality, and creativity. We are an inclusive, LGBTQIA+ friendly dorm, boasting 2 gender neutral bathrooms on our second floor. We also have a free-expression art room in the basement, which is home to graffiti from the 1980s to the present day. Oh, and how could we not mention that we have a big gold cock on the cupola on top of our roof!?

What separates Demarest from any other dorm on College Ave is our daily section discussions which are held in our basement, with topics ranging from Philosophy to Creative Writing, History to Visual Arts, Cinema Studies to Sex & Gender Studies, and Religion/Spirituality to Performing Arts and Music Appreciation. These are Socratic, student-led round-table-esque discussions pertaining to themes of each topic. If you’re studying in our beautiful basement during the weekdays, you’ll likely be a witness (and hopefully a participant) of such discussions.

When we’re not engaged in sections, we’re hosting events (usually) during the weekends. Some classic annual, semesterly, or monthly Demarest events include Drag Show, Battle of the Bands, Haunted House, DemiSemi, and Coffeehouse.
